Description: “End of life” is a non-specific term used to describe a wide array of experiences occurring in one’s final chapter of life. When faced with our own or another’s mortality, we all respond and conceive of this universal experience differently. In this course, the idea of “end of life” will be explored at both the personal, professional, and societal level. Signs of the dying process will be delineated and contrasted with signs of mistreatment at the end of life, as well. Finally, various challenges to understanding the end of life will be described, including ways to attempt to navigate these pitfalls to best support dignity, autonomy, and beneficence at the end of life for ourselves and others, including those in our care.
